There is always a melancholic beauty in Erdem’s collections. It is like he is trying to tell us, that we should hold on to romance as long as it is still there. Just like the dive into the romantic Erdem world, romance can disappear once you go back to the real world. For the pre-Fall 2018 collection, he took inspiration from Laura Ashley and Hokusai. What first might seem like an odd combination plays beautifully together in his signature style. Erdem’s incredible talent is to carefully balance a highly romanticised take on fashion, that could easily be seen as cheesiness but giving it relevance and edge with his strict tailoring and clean cuts.
